It was a busy week. A wonderful Christmas Eve Service on Tuesday, a funeral for long-time church member Whit Carver on Saturday, and sure enough, the very next day was Sunday.
Today is Monday, and tomorrow is New Years Eve. My prayer is that however you celebrate, recognize or acknowledge the passing of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, that you will do it smartly and safely. Many people will be on the roads, heading to or from celebrations, and many of them will be in no condition to drive, but they won’t let a little thing like too much to drink stop them, so please, if you’re traveling, be alert and stay safe.
As we enter the new year, we have some important decisions to make about how to reach the community, and make this church more accessible to those who may not understand what it is to know Christ and to grow in the fellowship of a community of believers. One thing we’re doing is reestablishing the Evangelism/Outreach department. We’ll also be working hard to build our youth group. Suggestions welcome.
And if you’re looking for New Year Resolutions, consider borrowing these from Ron Edmonson (one of my favorite bloggers) The whole list (7 resolutions, plus a brief explanation of why he thinks they’re important) can be found at http://www.ronedmondson.com/2013/12/7-new-year-resolutions-that-could-change-the-world.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GracedAgain+%28Ron+Edmondson+%29
Let’s resolve to begin everyday reading with a prayer, a smile, and a humility check
Let’s resolve to return evil with good
Let’s resolve to remember it’s not about us.
Happy New Year!
